Image Title: "Want to be there.."
From: Manuel Geissinger / geissinger-design

Rendered with the 0.7 RC, 15h on 10 cores (one core2quad tuned to 3,2Ghz, one Phenom X4, one Core2Duo 2,6Ghz) resulted in 1200S/Px.
I let it render beyond that, but I got like "burning holes" in the water, which increased in number the longer I rendered.
The water was done with this "new physical" method I got from a thread (I think you know which one, the one with the pool).

I post worked it with gimp as usual.

I'm not completely satisfied with some things in the image. For example the new refraction method (which probably is physically correct) made the stairs in the pool look longer and not as deep as they are modelled, some texture issues here and there, and I had to use a background with a CC license (attribution will follow, I dont have the authors name on this computer available), which wouldnt have been my first choice, if I could use any image from google. ;)

Here 's the image, c&c welcome. Happy luxing.

Edit: Of course the "lenght" of the stairs is mostly due to the wide perspective of the camera

Wow, your image is pretty cool, I really like it! Have you posted it to the finished works section or even the gallery yet?

I'm just not sure if it is good as a splash, because there are so many different elements.

Ok here is my first entry to the contest:

- my nickname: xray :) (without smily hehe)
- my name: Jan Konrad
- motivation: I don't like clean interior's
- rendertime: ~ 5 hours
- about 1 Million faces
- used a simple mixed material

here is a link to a bigger one with border: http://www.solar-ray.org/images/cg/fading-life_border_big.png

and here is a link to a bigger one without border and which fits to the contest rules (1000x1500): http://www.solar-ray.org/images/cg/fading-life_big.png

Well, you may not like mine but I really like yours :D.
though I would very much like you to render it with the focus on the leaves. Somewhere between the red one and the green one.

Great job!

I thought this thread was forgotten.

Nope I like yours as well, even if there are some things you could test to get better results (maybe a different lighting, another thing is that your scene is like a labyrinth, maybe you could simplify your scene to get faster results and less noise). And even its clean and some kind of interior :), don't take offense reading my motivation.
This wasn't against you or someone else, its just that there are so many interiors out there that I felt boring about this kind of simulation. There are still awesome ones in our lux gallery,
but some time ago (I think it was before I started with lux, working with blenders internal and indigo), I was so fascinated about the image quality and reality someone can create, that I talked with
a good friend who is drawing the traditionally way and knows about art. So I told him hey look what you can do with indigo/lux etc. isn't this amazing?? Unfortunately he didn't felt the same I did,
and he told me "no that don't impress me, they look realistic but they don't have ANY LIFE"! It took some time I understood this (could also be that I don't wanted to understand hehe), but than
I thought "yep he is right, they are realistic, clean and without any life" (life, means not that you have to see something in action or you must see a human etc, its more something to the spirit of an image).
From this I watched somehow different the images...
This doesn't mean that Im the one who is able to create realistic images with life in it. Im also not able to draw things traditionally (Im happy that I can hold a pen and write my name), and Im also no pro in art topics. It's just that now I have a different view if I create images and try to fill them with life/spirit. And the clean interiors are somehow the best example of images without life, don't know why. I know people have different intentions when creating images with lux or other renderer's, it would be petty to think they all want to create the next Leonardo da Vinci. But I think we should try to extend our selves a bit more, because in everyone is some kind of artist. And for lux it would be good as well...

Ok got a bit off topic, sorry  :)

cheers

This is my WIP for the contest. Probably in the final image the woman will be removed. Remember this is only a wip so it's suceptible about changes and a lot of objects is unfinished.
Thanks to all for the patience :)
