The glare effect makes it look shiny :)

naaah, that's not aliasing, it's the edges of the faces. (no normal smoothing).

i need to write some code to generate per-vertex normals for PLY import.

Hey,

Here's my scene files.
just put the ply model in the same dir.

I did do some levels adjustment in pshop to obtain the 'colder' lighting effect.
also some glare in violet as postpro.

I'll be adding smooth normal generation sometime today/tomorrow for the ply loader.

hey,

just enable the .IGI file output in luxrender and use the indigo violet tonemapping tool to add a glare effect.
