See you soon...

I came across this image below for GIMP GUI brainstorm, but I really like the style. This would be nice for LuxRender, I think.

Where can I code/change the design ?? :) I want to try it... it's just vector stuff, right... Probably opengl ...ahh, I got no time...
Cheers!

Re: The new GUI ;-) suggestion for Histogram

Postby jensverwiebe » Tue May 12, 2009 1:00 pm

Hi
Abel would like to have ad hoc histogram when the panel is expanded, not only after opening + first TM.

So are you all o.k. with this ?:

wxluxgui line 882 : m_Tab_Control_HistogramPanel->Show(true); ApplyTonemapping();

This way, if the histogram is opened, a tonemapping is triggered so the histogramm is computed ( only once !!! ) and no need to wait for a TM-event or apply TM manually to have filled Histgram.

K ?

The current GUI seems to look different (sliders, buttons, fonts, colours, tabs) on other operating systems. This means that there is no real standard on how LuxRender looks. Can these sliders/buttons/etc be made 'static'.

Can you adjust wxwidgets stuff to 'static' stuff so it looks on all operating systems the same? If so, how can that be done? I just want to try to adjust it...
Cheers!

Hi Poncho
Wxwidgets is only a thin layer between app + sys.
So system gfx-elements that exist are used + standard sys-fonts.
This could be nasty cause sometimes buttons, fonts etc. are not of the same
size. It is generally possible to adjust this a bit, but mostly the nativ look
of an Linux-, Win or OSX-application is preserved.

Honestly i like to have luxrender on OSX look like any other OSX-app and not
as a win-app and vice versa.

That is because operating systems don't follow the same standards about how things are supposed to look. Probably the most obvious difference is that on OSX the file menus are grouped in the OSX menu bar, whereas on Windows they are part of the window. Also the scroll bars follow the conventions of the operating system (or even use the options provided by the operating system) and as far as I know, the fonts used for the interface matches the system font. In short, it's a feature, not a bug.

If you want to adjust things for yourself, you'd have to learn about wxwidgets but this will probably take some time. ;)

Thanks for replies.

Looking at Photoshop CS4 screenshots on Mac and Windows, they do seem to look the same all the time, but you guys prefer Luxrender to 'fit' each own operating system I see.

Is it smart to spend time into wxwidget? Because I read somewhere that LuxRender in the future might take a different 'layer', right?
Cheers!

Yet they explore the standard practices of their native OS.
