Less stress on server (not much)

Postby Poncho » Mon Dec 29, 2008 4:47 pm

I combined most of the images into one collection and spread them with CSS over the main webpage.

This has two advantage:
1) less stress on the server (less requests)
2) less bandwidth (minimal) (13,4 kB vs 5,4 kB)

The main webpage will look exactly the same, just add the collection.png to the image folder. If it's in a dir, just use the search and replace function to add the "img/collection.png" part.
Of course also add the new .css and new .html.

It's a small thing, but it helps a little I guess.

I can also do more image or website manipulation/saving/editing if you like. For example christmas version of forum icons (althought a bit late now).

* Uploading of the CSS did not work. It's in a zip now, both.

Hey,

Thanks a lot, it's good to see people making autonomous efforts to help out :)
I need to update the website frontpage with some new images, i might do that tomorrow,
and then i can integrate your change. :)

Any luck on the update?

By the way, a good program (with GUI) to optimize PNG images (make file size smaller) is PNGGauntlet.

Poncho,
can you re-write the css file to remove references to images on your local machine. Leave all image references intact apart from collection.png, which should be in the relative path media/luxrender/img/collection.png

Did you change anything at all in the index.html file ?
