Ok, found a bug with the Nov 14th build. If you try and save an TIFF or JPEG, it spits out some error (which does not appear in the log, even with the --verbose option) along the lines of "ERROR Tonemapped image NOT saved. May be a". The rest is cut off. (it appears in the status bar along the bottom)

Aside from that, the new stuff seems to be working pretty well.

J the Ninja - cannot reproduce here.

The full message does not fit in the activity message area ;)
Code: Select all
statusMessage->setText(tr("ERROR: Tonemapped image NOT saved. May be an unsupported image type."));

Edit: found the reason: i did not bundle the appropiate Qt imageplugs ! Must look which is needed and fix. Fixed :)

How do I use (OSXintel_universal_LuxRender-0.8_latest) in blender 2.55 r32738? I am using this exporter, http://src.luxrender.net/luxblend25 which is installed into ( <blender scripts>/addons/ folder ). Got it !, path to lux must be set to lux console. But I have to manually load the scene file into lux gui, is there a way to automate this ?

The path in LuxBlend25 is to your install folder, not luxconsole or the LuxRender.app package. You might want to use the stable build on the front page though. These are still a work in progress.

Finally got around to comparing hybrid mode vs CPU mode on the same scene; hybrid was almost twice as fast, 39k S/s vs 23k S/s; quite impressed.
This is on my late 2009 iMac with a pretty mediocre AMD GPU.

Thanks for making this available for us Jens. :)

Hi Jens

I get the following error when I try the Hybrid CPU+GPU option:
[2010-11-19 22:36:58 Warning: 0] Parameter 'lightstrategy' not used
[2010-11-19 22:36:58 Severe error: 2] The SurfaceIntegrator doesn't support HybridSamplerRenderer.
[2010-11-19 22:36:58 Info: 0] Writing Tonemapped PNG image to file label_2.Scene.00001.png

By unchecking Advanced in the Surface Integrator pane, I only get the second error before rendering stops.

2.6Ghz MacBook Pro, 10.6.5, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Using the combined r33111 Pylux/LuxBlend/SLG

Otherwise great build and the double loading of textures has gone!

Thats what the log say's :)

Atm use: path integrator, lightstrategy = one, shadowrays = 1 ( default in LB2.5 )

Cheers Jens

My defaults must have gotten messed up, for me it was Bi-Dir.

rendering the cube with a Sun, Hybrid jumps from 250 to 350 kS/s, however with a more complex scene performance falls from 133 to 117 and I find just choosing Path over Bi-Dir gives me a 4x speed boost.

I'll try the same scene on my Linux box tomorrow to see if the better graphics card yields a better result.

Thanks again

psullie , you don´t get faster results with path over bidir, just the samples per seconds are higher.
You must watch for efficiency too and the see it converges faster with bidir ( samples/sec * eff/100 ).

For example 400% eff with bidir means each contribution has 4 hits, Roughly said. See ?
