Transparency-Problem with recent builds

Postby sebastian_k » Mon Nov 09, 2009 9:50 am

Hey!
I am testing recent builds, and while they render much faster, which of course is very welcome, they seem to have a problem with transparency.
I've posted an image to illustrate that. Areas, that rendered perfectly transparent with 0.6 now have a dark color, hence are not fully transparent. That is the case in both, the render and the preview in luxblend (which, i discovered that just because of that issues, is using the lux-engine to create the preview. makes sense... ;) ).
So, I wonder if it's just broken or if there now are new and different conventions of how to setup transparency.

With best regards,

Sebastian

I can confirm this. If you configure a material to consist only of the null material, then the object is fully invisible. However when you use null material in a mix material, you get the problem sebastian_k reported.

What I said above is applicable to the bidir case. When path is used the situation becomes more interesting: null mat parts are correctly transparent, but opaque mat parts and the shadow are seems semi-transparent.

I just noticed this as well today while testing LordCrc's latest Windows build. Attached is a scene that can be used to test the problem.

Using LuxRender 0.6 (OS X), the scene looks like this:

On an experimental OS X Qt build, I got quite an amazing result:

edit: Jens found out the problem only occurred on Qt and not on wxWidgets builds, this is the current result using wsWidgets:
(I changed the floor material for this one)

Hi,

I've spotted a few issues in the bidir code, I'm not yet completely sure I've spotted everything.
