I have Blender 2.59 installed and working properly on a MacOSX 10.6.8 computer.

I am trying without success to install LuxRender v08. it all seems to work fine, but it does not show up in the Render drop down menu as I assume it should.

These are the instructions I am following and I have made notes in the place where I am possibly going wrong. I am not a technical writer but it would seem to be common sense that when the interface is as "non-standard" as the Blender interface is, the person writing these instructions would be very precise and clear. I am completely new to this and I feel that those involved in this community need to be very clear so that newcomers are not frustrated and intimidated:

1. In the same folder where you found these installation instructions, there is a file called download_LuxBlend25_addon.webloc. Double clicking this item will download a file containing the LuxBlend25 exporter, packed in a zip file.
2. After having downloaded the zip file, place it in a convenient location – for example the LuxRender folder in your Applications folder. It's best not to unpack the zip file.
3. Start Blender, go to preferences → addons and click the “install addon” button. [Does this mean "User Preference"? I assume "Yes". Also "addons" should read "Add-Ons". Is this correct? I should click the "Add-Ons" button in the horizontal list of buttons along the top of the "User Perferences" panel, correct? ] Yes
4. Browse to the location of the zip file mentioned under step two. [I believe I did this correctly. This is a non standard interface that should be described clearly for users who are unfamiliar with it.] "Install add-on" opens Blender's file browser, use that to navigate to the add-on
5. You should now see the luxrender addon listed in the addons menu. Click the box on the right to activate it.
6. As last step press "save as default" button or do "ctrl-u" keycommand to make the activation of addon persistent.
7. For further instructions about starting a rendering, please visit http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/LuxBlend_ ... structions

Hello.

I am totally new to LuxRender. Just heard about it @ RDNA because of the upcoming release of Reality 3.
I am a Windows 7 64 bit user.
Could someone direct me to a "How To" to help me learn just what I need to install and in what sequence to be able to use LuxRender on a Windows 7 64 bit PC in preparation for Reality 3? :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Er - did you read the title of this thread?
OSX != Windows 7 ;)

Have a look at the wiki: http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/Main_Page
There's a link to a reality documentation in it: http://preta3d.com/reality-documentation/

Why then at the beginning does it say OSX 10.5 "Leopard" and 10.6 "SnowLeopard"? I thought OSX must apply to Mac. I am frustrated enough without the sarcasm.

You're completely right - and because you are a Windows user and this is the Mac thread, you are wrong here. If there's no thread "LuxRender on Windows 7 - starting guide" first search for one and if you don't find anything that helps you, create a new thread.

Sorry, I only wanted to help. I didn't want to annoy you or something. It was just that your question was like "can I have Windows support?" in an OSX forum.

And to your problem: look what documentation comes with Reality, look in the LuxRender wiki and if you don't find anything that helps, make a new thread here.

Hi folks,
which version of Blender is perfectly compatible with Luxrender 1.0 RC2?

I use Blender 2.64 and Luxrender 1.1 on my MAC OSX 10.6.8 and it works, but when submit a job in a grid using Luxrender 1.0 RC2 I've get some errors about lights, sun lights, etc.

Thanks and sorry my bad english ;)

I THINK the 1.0 release version should work: http://src.luxrender.net/luxblend25/rev/502aef7e3657

The version that was shipped with 1.0RC2 I don't think works with 2.64+, due to the color management changes.

Also, you should be able to fix the sun error by enabling the "use legacy sky spectrum" option on the sun lamp.

Thank's about light correction.

This link http://src.luxrender.net/luxblend25/rev/502aef7e3657 is LuxBlend version.
I needed Blender version instead (compatible with Luxrender 1.0 RC2).

tnx

EDIT: ok i've tryed Blender 2.63 and Luxrender 1.0 on MAC OSX 10.6.8 ...seems it works! At least on my machine...I'll try to submit some jobs on grid!
