Exporting from 3ds to Standalone

I'm a newbee when it comes to both 3ds aswell as Lux. I was wondering how you can export a scene from 3ds Max to the standalone renderer (create a .lxs file). I have the Lux-plugin installed in 3ds but as far as I understand it, you cannot use your GPU for rendering using the plugin. So i would like to export the scene to the standalone renderer and use my GPU. How can I do that?

Again I am kinda new to the world of rendering so it is very likely that I have misunderstood some concepts but I'm eager to learn! So any explenations or suggestions would be appriciated!
