Caustics

Postby A-man » Mon Apr 23, 2012 3:15 pm

This is a re-render of an old scene (viewtopic.php?f=14&t=4873) at 1920x1080. I rendered it over the weekend on an i7 and 2 xeons to a whopping 72.5k (!) s/p. I think this is suitable for a desktop now unlike my 1200x800 original ;)

I also wanted to quote Jeanphi's comment on the original:

jeanphi wrote:Very nice caustics, and not much noise for such a difficult render.

and would like to point out that there is virtually no VPU. The only way you can see any noise at all is to crank up the sharpness in the image. This is the second cleanest render I've ever made, next to one I did in SLG that was like 200k s/p or some ludicrous number :p

Enjoy!

You'd have 2 screens with just grey plane, you could probably add that in gimp ;)

Wow, incredible!
There's slight banding in caustics on the left, guess you'd have to add 1 or 2 more levels of mesh subdivision to get rid of it.

Yeah, I noticed that too, hoping no one else would :p I already had tons of subsurf, I was sure normal interpolation would save my bacon :)
