Sprocket and Zeealpal: are you guys using the modified version of Lux LordCrc gave me? It gave me a nearly 700% increase in speed. I'll attach it, and all you have to do is run the lxs with this version instead. (right click lxs, open with: select this file). I will also be helping rendering, and I recommend once you get to higher s/p like maybe 20-30k, try out GREYCstoration. I've found it can lead to great results.

Could it become even longer render than famous tea scene by Eros?
We should have extra record board for that.

I think its more about the work you put into a scene, rather than how long you leave it in the oven.

You'll need to edit the .lxs file change the resolution to this:

"integer xresolution" [2560]
"integer yresolution" [2560]

yeah if i compare my machines speed and weeks that went into that tea set on multible i7's and i5's and xeons, then my longest render is still 10x shorter.

But actually idea about that leaderboard isn't that bad.
It's same thing like athletes compete (stronger faster longer and craziest when you are into that extream sport like Wingsuit flying or other extreams )

Is everybody rendering the scene 2560 by 2560 then? It would suck if we all had FLMs with different resolutions

Yes, 2560x2560 is the new size. I'm up to about 650 s/p over about 20 hours :p Good news though, a co-worker said I can build a computer from all the spare parts at work and build a render slave

I have a desktop computer I'll leave it rendering on , but i need to put an OS on it first. But I can use this laptop to render when I'm not rendering anything myself

Still I won't be able to do as much as all these kids with their fancy quad cores and what not, but I want to see what the volumetric scattering looks like in high resolution


Do you guys know a good place to get photo prints from? I don't know of any monitor you could look at the whole thing with


By the way, i'm not using the hacked version of luxrender. The FLMs will still merge right?


Also, A man, how did you do the water in this scene? Was it just a regular fluid or did you use dynamic paint waves? Cause it's kind of like the side of it is invisible and I can't figure out how to do that

Slime: yes the FLM's will still merge, however I'd highly suggest using the modified Luxrender because it offers a significant speed advantage. To make the water I made a plane the size of the box, used cloud texture displacement on it, then extruded the front edge down. It's not a fluid sim or anything like that, just modelled
