Billiards

Postby Piita » Mon Nov 27, 2017 10:45 am

Some time ago I found a simple but very good-looking photo of some billiard balls. I wanted to re-create it as a render and perhaps learn something about this lighting thing which is so hard.
I ended up learning a lot. I guess that's why they say re-creating photographs is good training :)

Thanks, guys.

Render time was about 7hrs. cpu path metropolis. Intel i7-4790.
The balls are a mix of glossy and null + scattering volume and finally a glossy coating.
The small lumps on the table carpet were created by placing a plane just underneath the carpet, subdividing it loads of times and using some small scale displacement on it making only a few bumps clip through the carpet.
