Accurate comparison between rendering and real photograph!

Postby damoguyan » Sun Jun 26, 2011 6:01 am

I am doing a simple experiment for comparing the rendering and real photograph.

I hope that the rendered appearance of the beer bottle can approximate that of the real photography. But I couldn't because i am not good at tuning the material.
So I beg somebody to help me!

I hope this is done using luxrender 0.6.1 and luxblender 0.6.1

Here's what I think. First of all, it's time to move on! .61 is a thing of the past :) Anyways, I think you'd see a great improvement by tuning down the reflection of the glass. If you get a .8 build or even .7 you will be able to use glass2, which is much more realistic.

In addition to A-mark's suggestions, make sure to adjust your tone mapping so that the walls look like the ones in the photograph. And, have you taken the photograph yourself? Are the lighting conditions similar to those in the rendering?

Hi,

Accurate comparison with a photograph implies accurate measurement of the materials properties (lights, walls, floor and glass in your case).
And as said, v0.6 contains various bugs that might cause inaccurate rendering and misses features like volumetric absorption which is mandatory for correct glass rendering. I strongly suggest you move on to v0.8.

I took the photograph myself.
I just hope that the appearances of bottle between the rendering and photograph cane be a little approximate.

You'll need motion blur for the rendering
I'd say, first take a sharp photo ;)

Don't be cruel, If people where like that to us when we where new would you have come back? I doubt I would!
Though I have to admit such a glass project is a bit advanced for the newly initiated, perhaps a simpler project would lend a better result until skill and ability develop to suit.

Sorry, it wasn't meant in a rude way. It was just what I thought when I saw that photograph.
It's no big deal to just take a new photo (maybe with flash/more light).

I might be being a little over sensitive on damoguyan's behalf - but I don't want people to think we are a Sneering Bunch of Pretentious Elitists.
