ambient occlusion with luxrender

Postby shadow7 » Tue Apr 17, 2012 8:20 am

hi,
I did render ambient occlusion with pbrt
Now I want to accelerate rendering with the gpu, how I can add ambient occlusion in a scene luxrender?
thanx's.

There's no AO in LuxRender.
AO is a biased rendering technique AFAIK and is not needed in LuxRender (most Lux integrators/samplers are unbiased).

You could bake an AO map in blender and use it as a texture on the object, but Lux doesn't do AO on it's own.

A clay render with maxdepth = 1 is essentially AO. However you can't bake it, so would only be good for composition.

How can I import an occlusion map, if I use pbrt without blender
How export it to luxrender?

AO can be useful to composite, to emphasize detail/shapes, particularly architecture elements etc.
