Hi all,
Since we've got our *cool* new logo,
here's an update of the material preview scene which you might have seen around.
The new lux logo is booleaned out of the main ball.
I'd like to propose a competition of some sorts to complete it.
I suggest you have a look around on other projects (the maxwell preview is pretty much the golden standard),
and figure out the features it needs to completeley demonstrate all aspects of a material.
i'd start with an environment, better lighting, uv mapping etc...
the object's size: the main ball with the logo cut out is 10cm wide. (diameter). the units in the blend file are 1cm for 1 blender unit.
Once we have a final scene we can start rendering materials for the documentation with it,
and after the material system overhaul planned for lux v0.2, an online material database.
Here is the .blend scene file as a zip archive:
http://www.luxrender2.org/downloads/luxball.zip
There's a copy of the latest luxblend alpha9 inside the texteditor (right view pane) in the scene file above.
i suggest you use that one to render with.
Just make sure 'background' is set to 'none' and set the sampler from 'lowdiscrepancy' to 'random' in the engine tab.
You can render it with MLT for good results, i've attached a latest CVS build for win32 to this post.
(linux users will have to compile from CVS...)
Please share your comments/ideas in this threads, aswell as any questions...
Good Luck!,
Radiance
