I'm unable to reproduce the problem with the current snapshot. I don't have Blender 2.5 at hand, so exported with 2.49 in clay mode. Could it be an exporter issue?

Try updating LuxBlend25, for a day or so it had a bug where it essentially exported everything as smooth, even if it was set as solid.
