Well, in spite of what the download page says, the 64-bit version does not work on my Mac OS X 32-bit machine running 10.5.

I see... well if Leopard requires the 32bit version then I'm not so surprised anymore

Oh hell.....

...think twice man.

A 64bit version don´t runs on 10.5 ( Leo ) if your computer is not able to. Thats not a secret.

The first Intelmacs equipped with CoreDuo can´t run 64bit app´s in spite of running Leopard. Thats just bound to CPU ( some MacBook´s, check your spec´s )
Tiger is only 32bit capable in GUI-app´s, commandline apps could run 64bit, again only if you cpu supports it.
So whats your problem?

I have no problem. I was just pointing out that a possible reason for people using the 32 bit version could be that the 64-bit version doesn't work on (at least some) machines even though they are not running Tiger.

This is what the download page states:

If you're using OS X 10.4 (Tiger), use the 10.4 version, otherwise use the standard version.

As you state, the situation is slightly more complicated than that. But if all these people downloading the 32bit version should only do that if they are either running Tiger or are on a quite old machine, that is strange. Perhaps the person who looked at the download stats can also see what version of the OS they are running.

@tinus --->Abel pls read and correct dl for OSX

I see now, Abel didn´t took my instructions clearly over to the DL-page.

- Fist version is not a "standard"-version, but 64bit ( the tooltips are right though )
- i don´t do extra zipping anymore ( step 3 ), spares just a few MB so not longer needed.
- step 5 too outdated, it is all in installer, no more drag´n drop needed

I think this must be corrected soon.
In the meantime read the sticky post for OSX-users in support-forum, thats more detailed.

I understand that, but many people have no idea what 32 bit or 64 bit means. By providing a default version, those people won't get stuck in confusion in the first step.

Ok, they are removed now.
