Blender hairstrands as .ply?

Postby syndaryl » Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:53 pm

I'm noticing even when I ask for binary .ply export, hair strands are still being written out as native LXO geometry. Is there a plan to move the hairstrand geometry to .ply when requested?

The hairs are a chain of mathematical-cylinder primitives (one for each hair-path segment), there is no mesh to write to a PLY.

Shoot.

I was hoping I'd found a sneaky way to get hair out of blender as actual geometry, instead of a string of vertexes like baking the simulation currently does.

I just convert them to a mesh and then extrude them a VERY small amount in two different dimensions then set the mesh to smooth shading, the strands are small enough that it looks fine imo when you apply a glossy material.
