who can explain this difference between portal

Postby lummi » Fri Jan 19, 2018 7:46 am

why this huge difference between portal and non-portal? While Very simple and similar scenes were both rendered for an hour via bidirectional, the caustics look so different!
And the portal scene didn't show any better quality as it supposed to.

Try to do the same test with a sky-only (no sun) light source or an infinite light, portals can do a huge difference in that case.

Easy to explain in this case: your portal normals point in the wrong direction !!! Flip them.
With right setup portals i get nearly 8 times kC/s .
